Who We Are

Free Range Minds is a consultancy built on a simple premise: meaningful change happens when systems, behaviours, and human experience are understood as they actually are — complex, patterned, embodied, and emergent.

We bring together interdisciplinary thinking, behavioural science, natural language processing, and lived organisational insight to help institutions design environments where people and ideas thrive.

We exist at the intersection of science, leadership, and culture — and we’re relentlessly curious about the subtle forces that shape how humans learn, behave, and work together.

Founding Partners

Dr Adil J. Khan

Bariatric & Upper-GI Senior Trainee Surgeon | Complexity Scientist | Behavioural Systems Innovator

Adil blends clinical expertise with complexity science, epistemological behaviourism, and organisational culture design. His work includes pioneering EDI-simulation pilots within NHS England, developing ReciProMent — a systems-based mentoring programme — and building new frameworks for evaluating experiential learning using NLP, embodiment metrics, and normative behavioural mapping.

At Free Range Minds, Adil focuses on systems strategy, behavioural modelling, and designing transformative experiential programmes that surface the hidden dynamics shaping professional environments.

Professor James Carney

Professor of Psychology, London Interdisciplinary School | Co-founder, Texture AI

James is one of the UK’s leading thinkers in computational humanities and applied cognitive science. His research bridges narrative cognition, AI-driven text analytics, and the psychology of meaning. As co-founder of Texture AI, he has developed NLP tools used to decode patterns in human communication, behaviour, and decision-making.

At Free Range Minds, James guides the analytical and methodological backbone of our work — from linguistic modelling and behavioural signal detection to the design of robust, scalable evaluation tools.

Chris Birbeck

Founder, The Blooming Peoples Partnership | Applied Anthropologist | Culture Architect

Chris specialises in human-centred organisational change, empathy-based leadership design, and understanding culture as a living system. Through The Blooming Peoples Partnership, he has helped organisations re-shape their cultures by centring psychological safety, embodiment, and inclusive practice.

At Free Range Minds, Chris leads on embodied learning, cultural diagnostics, and designing human systems where people are not only effective — but able to flourish.

Our Shared Vision

Together, we combine:

  • Behavioural science
  • Complexity thinking
  • Embodiment research
  • NLP and computational analysis
  • Organisational anthropology
  • Leadership and culture design

Our mission is to build tools, programmes, and insights that turn organisational development into something measurable, meaningful, and deeply human.

We help teams see the invisible patterns that drive behaviour — and empower them to transform those patterns with clarity, intention, and evidence.
